Understanding your surgical journey

Before your surgery:

You have a diagnosis and you’ve been referred to a surgeon, you maybe even have a date for your procedure. This is the ideal time to also be referred to My Surgical Buddy for a pre-operative assessment. During this extensive assessment one of our consultants will review your latest blood results, medications and clinical factors that can impact your surgical outcomes. A plan for surgery and rehabilitation will then be put in place and communicated with your surgeon and general practitioner. You may be advised to also see our allied health team before your surgery. At My Surgical Buddy we don’t operate on a one size fits all service model, we tailor our management to suit your needs.

During your hospital stay:

Once you’ve had your surgery, we work with you and your surgeon to get you walking confidently and help manage any short-term side effects you’re experiencing. We aim to get you back in your own home feeling yourself as soon as possible. Once your surgery is complete your care may be overseen by our rehabilitation consultant with input from our senior allied health team.

After discharge:

Once you’re home the My Surgical Buddy team are on hand to get you back to optimal health. We understand that this can be a challenging time for you and your family. This is the time that our allied health team might work with you more intensively with less input from our specialists. We want to make sure you’re improving and meeting certain milestones following discharge. One of our main aims is to make sure you don’t return to hospital because of a long-term complication. Our team provide either clinic based, or telehealth and in some cases home visits to ensure that you are on track to meet your post-surgical goals.
